Revolutionizing Strategy: From Static Models to Dynamic Practices

Strategy is the backbone of any organization's success. It is the path that takes a company from its current state to its desired future. Traditionally, strategy has been associated with complex and time-consuming processes involving in-depth analyzes and rigid strategic plans. But in an ever-changing world, it is necessary to think about strategy in a more dynamic way. This is where the Strategy Model Canvas comes into play.

Strategy Model Canvas: A dynamic approach to strategy

The Strategy Model Canvas is an innovative approach to strategy development that draws inspiration from the Business Model Canvas. Instead of drawing up long strategic plans, encourage Strategy Model Canvas to create a visual model that describes the organization's strategic elements in a simple and coherent way.

This tool consists of 10 key components:

  1. Purpose: What is the purpose of the company? Why do we do what we do? Based on the company's overall purpose, each team or division develops its own purpose.
  2. Ambition: What are the company's goals? What is it you want to achieve? What is Each team or division ditto?
  3. Long-term Focus: What is the company focusing on in the long term? The next 1-3 years.
  4. Value Commitments: Specify your long-term goals (for the next 3 years). Prepared both by the executive board and for each team or division.
  5. Strategic Focus: What is the company's strategic focus for the next six months? Select max. 3 focus areas.
  6. Team composition: Who is on this team and what are their responsibilities?
  7. The team's Go-to-market strategy: Based on the above points, the team and divisions prepare a Go-to-Market strategy
  8. Employees' Action Plan (joint and individual): What actions can you take to support your team and not least the company's overall goals and ambitions?
  9. Priority plan: Employee and manager jointly determine a prioritized plan for the coming period.
  10. Follow-up and evaluation: Do you hold regular status and priority meetings?

Strategy Model Canvas is a dynamic framework that can be updated and changed quickly as the organization develops and reacts to changing market conditions. This makes it a powerful tool for day-to-day strategic decision-making.

Transformation and transition: Realizing the strategy

Formulating a strategy is only the beginning. It is through transformation and transition that the strategy becomes a reality. Transformation often involves major organizational changes, including changes in culture, processes and technology.

A successful transformation requires:

  • Clear goals and metrics: Goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART) provide direction and enable monitoring of progress.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Gaining support and engagement from employees, management and other stakeholders is critical to ensuring the transformation is successful.
  • Agility and adaptability: Transformation can face unexpected challenges and it is important to be prepared to adapt and change course when necessary.
  • Communication and education: Effective communication and education are essential to ensure that everyone understands and accepts the necessary changes.

The revolutionary approach: Strategy as a continuous process

While the Strategy Model Canvas and the transformation process are important elements of strategic planning, the real revolution is in the way we think about strategy. Traditional strategic plans are often static documents that are updated annually or quarterly. The revolutionary approach is to see strategy as a continuous process.

This involves:

  • Agile strategy development: By applying the principles of agility, organizations can adapt their strategy continuously in line with changing conditions.
  • Data-driven decision making: Using data and analytics to identify trends and opportunities and react quickly to them.
  • Feedback mechanisms: Create feedback mechanisms that allow for input from employees, customers and other stakeholders.
  • Ongoing evaluation: Constant assessment of the effectiveness of the strategy and the ability to achieve the goals.

This approach makes strategy an integral part of everyday life in the organization and allows for faster reactions to changing conditions.

Dynamic strategy

Strategy is no longer a static exercise. Strategy Model Canvas provides a simple and visual approach to strategy development, while transformation and transition translate strategy into action. The revolutionary approach to strategy involves seeing strategy as a continuous process that can be adapted and changed in step with the world around us. This makes organizations more agile and able to thrive in an ever-changing world. So let's embrace the revolutionary approach to strategy and step into the future with confidence and agility.
