Employees' five basic needs
Everyone needs leadership – but which one?
Regardless level and function we all need leadership. We all have a universal set of basic needs that are important for leaders to know, work with and acknowledge.
The more you as a manager are aware of those needs and how you can work with them in your daily management practice, the easier you mobilize performance and motivation.
It is your responsibility as a manager to mobilize the human potential in your company! Employees want to succeed. The question is, how do you help them do it!
Your employees are an important stakeholder
Employees want present managers who take a genuine interest in them, can create the right framework in their daily work and who both help to develop and challenge them professionally and personally.
The wage earner culture is dead. Your employees are an important stakeholder on an equal footing with customers, suppliers and others. And your view of your employees helps set the agenda for their performance and motivation. We can no longer just talk about what the employee has to contribute, but what can we as managers and as an organization do to create the stage for performance.
The 5 basic needs
Working with the 5 basic needs helps you and your business set the stage. A scene where the employee:
- know the direction of where you are heading as an organization
- have the opportunity to develop skills and potential that match the direction
- continuously receives constructive feedback on his performance
- get the necessary support along the way
- gets the recognition it deserves.
